Baber Mahal Vilas, located in the heart of the city of Kathmandu is a boutique hotel that has an amalgamation of original architectural heritage from Mustang, Terai and Newar cultures with its main theme being the luxurious grandiosity of the lifestyle of the Rana era. Since all the Rana palaces had been seized by the government post Indian Independence, this is the closest you will get to living like how the ruling Rana families did in their palaces. The main segment of this look has been shot in and around the hotels popular and much talked about Library. It consists of vintage books with great historic value about Nepal. A huge portrait of Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana (longest ruling prime minister of Nepal for more than 28 years) along with his wife and a physical costume of Maharaja Chandra during his time of command is also present.
My look has the warm colour tones to blend in with the interiors of the library. I paired the look with my grandmothers vintage Persol sunglasses that she purchased right after her marriage in The UK. I have used this vintage delight as a prop for this shoot but you shall soon see me sporting them in one of my upcoming blogs. Special ups to Rhea Pradhan (@peppyowl) for helping me curate the shoot alongwith the renowned photographer Santosh Chhantyal (@santosh.chhantyal).
